Earlier this month, a fire sprinkler pipe burst on the tenth floor of a residence hall on the UMass Boston campus. The burst was caused by sustained, frigid sub-zero temperatures and led to very significant damage.
Responding quickly, Paul Davis flood and water damage crews got to work the same day to begin the restoration process after this large-loss event, finding that flood waters from the pipe burst had been able to penetrate into the lower floors of the building before the water was shut off. Covered in detail in a news article published by UMass Media, dozens of rooms used for student housing sustained extensive water damage, affecting hundreds of students.
Commercial water damage restoration crews from Paul Davis began the complex work of removing soaked carpeting, structural materials, and other items. We then set up industrial drying equipment powered by diesel generators so that we can return the building to a safe and habitable state as quickly as we can.
We know the profound stress, worry, and heartbreak that can come with a large loss situation from water damage, fires, or other disasters. That stress is amplified for college students, many of whom are far from home and have limited resources. Our goal during a residential or commercial restoration project involving large-scale losses is to restore the building to a safe condition, minimize further damage, and prevent mold growth so that residents can return to their normal routine as soon as possible and focus on what matters most.
